Assistant Teacher - Infant Class

Job Summary
The Child Care Assistant assists the classroom teachers in all aspects of the program helping create a total learning environment for the individual needs of each child. The assistant is also responsible for classroom, center and equipment cleanliness in order to meet nurturing and physical care responsibilities of the children.
Qualifications
Education
- Vocational / Technical Degree in Certificate (TCC) in a related field, preferably in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) concentration
- In lieu of a Technical College Certificate (TCC), a valid, current Child Development Associate (CDA) or a valid, current Paraprofessional Certificate with 2 additional years experience (Required)
Work Experience
- 2+ years Assisting or teaching a group of young children in a child care setting (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- Required Certifications/Licensures: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) obtained within 1 year of hire
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check determination (Cogent)
- Preferred Certifications/Licensures: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
Essential Functions
Provides Assistance in the Day to Day Operations of the Center
- Provides direct assistance to teachers and staff as needed
- Supports the teaching staff, center philosophy, program and the curriculum, assisting with all child care and educational activities
- Uses appropriate teaching techniques at all times
- Gives children guidance for the proper care and use of supplies, learning materials, and equipment
- Understands and knows child's family
- Helps with general housekeeping tasks

- Promotes a positive environment for children, families and staff
- Treats all children, families and staff members with dignity and respect and allows for individual differences
- Maintains appropriate communication with staff, children and families at all times
- Maintains an open, warm and very professional relationship with all families
Knows All Health and Emergency Policies
Knows all health and emergency policies of the program and is ready to implement them if necessary.
Exhibits Proficient Knowledge in Early Care and Learning
- Exhibits proficient knowledge in early care and learning theories, activities and policies
- Exhibits knowledge in child development theories and practices
- Exhibits knowledge in safe and appropriate activities for children
- Exhibits knowledge in relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times
Ensures a Safe and Clean Environment
- Ensures safety and security of students while providing a clean environment
- Ensures safety of all children in assistant's care
- Maintains a clean child center environment both inside the center and outside
- Encourages and instructs children in personal hygiene and group health practices
- Reports any suspect child abuse to supervisor
Additional Duties
- Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
- Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time
- Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
