Qualifications
- Vocational / Technical Degree in Radiologic Technology (Required)
Work Experience
- 1 - 2 years CT (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
Required Certifications/Licensures:
- Certified Computed Tomography (CT) (ARRT)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Essential Functions
SPECIALIZED TECH PROCEDURES:
- Perform the specialized procedures according to the department protocols.
- Identify the patient according to hospital policy.
- Ensure that the correct procedure is performed on the patient either by the patient's medical record or the physician orders.
- Set up the procedure room and the isotope for the exam.
- Explain the procedure to the patient and/or family member.
- Perform the exam/procedure according to established protocols.
- Ensure the exam is properly labeled.
- QA the exam before it is released for interpretation.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA procedures on the equipment.
RADIATION SAFETY - SPECIALIZED TECH:
- Follow the proper procedures to ensure Radiation Safety and Protection to the staff and patients.
- When performing the exam on the patient, only radiate the area of interest.
- Shield the patient's gonads region especially children and adults of childbearing age.
- Limit repeats exposures to the patients, by ensuring the equipment is set up correctly.
- Wear radiation monitoring badges at all times.
- Wear protective equipment when in the radiation field (fluoroscopic exams and or holding patients). Protective equipment includes lead aprons and gloves, thyroid shield, and leaded glasses.
- Stand behind the protective barrier when not required to be in the radiation field.
- Limit exposure by limiting exposure time to radiation and increasing your distance from the radiation source.
- Ensure the safety of others during the exam by having them behind the lead barrier or wearing radiation protective equipment during an exposure.
DOCUMENTATION:
- Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
- Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
- Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
- Uses correct terminology.
- Conforms to required style and format.
TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT USE:
- Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
- Understands equipment operation.
- Maintains equipment in working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems.
- Uses technology to increase productivity. Adapts to new technology.
ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS:
- Collects data in a systematic and ongoing process.
- Issues are identified and diagnoses are developed based on assessment data.
- Prioritizes data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
- Identifies expected outcomes and plans based on diagnoses or issues.
INTERVENTION PROCEDURES:
- Perform interventional procedures such as biopsies, abscess drainage, & centesis reduction.
- Properly identify the side that is to be entered.
- Perform a Time-out with all personnel involved with the procedure before the procedure is started.
- Perform the exam according to the direction of the radiologist.
- Conduct the procedure as a sterile procedure.
- Scan documents into the Radiology PACS.
- QA the images before sending the study to the radiologist who performs the exam.

- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
- Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
- For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
