Qualifications

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Work Experience

  • 4 - 5 years in an acute care setting in area of specialty (Required)
  • 0 - 1 year of demonstrated proficiency in critical care competencies at expert level (Required)
  • 1 - 2 years in previous leadership (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

Required Certifications/Licensures:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred Certifications/Licensures:

  • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)

CARE TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Supports, leads, and directs clinical care leadership team in the absence of the Director/Manager.
  • Directs and delegates clinical staff to meet patients' needs based on competency of personnel.
  • Participates in the assessment of staff competency and educates, coaches, and mentors staff to achieve competence.
  • Ensures staff provides ongoing assessment of patients including the review of lab results and reports abnormal findings to physicians.
  • Monitors procedures performed.
  • Has demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis and appropriately direct activities.
  • Is approachable by staff.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
  • Utilizes discretion and independent judgment in providing supervision and management to a team of licensed and unlicensed personnel during an assigned shift on designated unit(s) who provide direct and indirect patient care for an age-specific population.

QUALITY AND PATIENT SAFETY OUTCOMES

  • Implements unit specific strategies and colleague specific practice remediation that result in achieving specific clinical quality and patient safety outcomes.
  • Assists with communication of information to staff. Provides coaching/counseling in a constructive manner.
  • Keeps Director informed of any concerns, situations, or conditions relative to staff, patients, family members, or physicians.
  • Participates in the orientation of new employees. Serves as a positive role model, mentor, and resource person for less experienced nursing staff.
  • Supervises employees on their respective shifts and prepares input for annual evaluations. Must demonstrate exceptional maturity to facilitate a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and related disease processes of the critical care patient.
  • Keeps current on trends and developments in nursing and serves as a resource for critical care standards of practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to think critically, prioritize, and recognize emergencies and responds with proper protocol.

Additional Duties

  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
