Job Summary

Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- Vocational / Technical Degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field preferred
Work Experience
- 1 or more years of hospital-based pharmacy experience (Required)
- Competency in at least one of the following areas of specialty may be required depending on job assignment and department:
- NICU
- OR
- Narcotic Room
- IV Room
- Purchasing
- Pharmacy Informatics
- Technology
Licenses and Certifications
- Technician Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days (Required)
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT) within 90 days (Required)
Essential Functions
PHARMACY ASSISTANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for assisting pharmacists in receiving, processing, and dispensing of all physicians' orders for medications, IV solutions, and outpatient prescriptions
- Transports drugs and supplies to and from the pharmacy area to ensure delivery of quality care according to established protocols and transport times
- Completed training in aseptic technique and performs duties and responsibilities of an IV technician
- Responsible for answering phones, window, and doors, also loading and unloading the pneumatic tube system
- Assist in pulling out dates from main pharmacy and automated dispensing cabinets
- Assist in stock replenishment and maintaining inventory
- Works with pharmacists in performing monthly nursing station audits
AREA SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES - PHARMACY
- Demonstrates expertise in one of the following areas at least 80% of their work hours:
- IV Lead Technician
- Narcotic Room
- Informatics and Technology
- OR Pharmacy Satellite
- NICU Pharmacy Satellite
- Purchasing of Pharmaceuticals
- Hematology / Oncology
- Out Patient Pharmacy
TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT USE
- Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role
- Understands equipment operation
- Maintains equipment in working order and troubleshoots equipment problems
- Uses technology to increase productivity and adapts to new technology
Additional Duties
- Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
- Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs)
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time
- Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs
- For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
