Qualifications

  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Radiologic Technology (Required)

Work Experience

  • 0 - 1 year Working in a Radiology department in a hospital environment (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required Certifications/Licensures:
    • Certified Radiography (R)(ARRT)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Essential Functions

RADIOLOGY PROCEDURES

  • Perform the radiologic and/or fluoroscopic procedure according to the department protocols.
  • Identify the patient according to hospital policy.
  • Ensure that the correct procedure is performed on the patient either by the patient medical record or physician orders.
  • Explain the exam/procedure to the patient and/or family members.
  • Set up the procedure room and/or equipment for the exam.
  • Ensure the exam is marked anatomically correct.
  • QA the exam on PACS before it is released for interpretation.

RADIATION SAFETY

  • Follow the established radiation safety guidelines to protect the patient, co-workers, and oneself from unnecessary radiation.
  • Maintain knowledge of exposure rates and equipment and the use of safety precautions such as gloves, shields, and badges.
  • When performing the exam on the patient, only radiate the area of interest.
  • Shield the patient's gonads region, especially children and adults of childbearing age.
  • Limit repeat exposures to the patient by ensuring the equipment is set up correctly.
  • Maintain quality controls for scanner, power injector, and other equipment in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Wear radiation monitoring badges at all times.
  • Wear protective equipment when in the radiation field (fluoroscopic exams and/or holding patients):
    • Lead aprons
    • Lead gloves
    • Thyroid shield
    • Leaded glasses
  • Stand behind the protective barrier when not needed in the radiation field.
  • Limit exposure by either limiting exposure time in the radiation field or increasing your distance from the radiation source.
  • Ensure the safety of others during the exam by having them behind the lead barrier or wearing radiation protective equipment during an exposure.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
  • Uses correct terminology.
  • Conforms to required style and format.
  • Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
