LPN Extern - Fall 2026 Graduates - Albany Campus

Eligibility

• Required to be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and will graduate FALL 2026

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
• Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
• Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
• Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
• Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time
• Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills
• Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
• Demonstrates knowledge and application of basic patient care, to include activities of daily living, vital signs and intake and output
• Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality
• Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the Registered Nurse
• Organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse
• Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit
• Promotes and displays positive and customer-oriented demeanor to patients, visitors, staff and physicians
• Seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered
• Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues
• Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm
• Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety
• Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

• General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels
• May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms
• May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
• Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Other Degree: Currently enrolled in nursing school in a practical nursing program; must have completed Basic Fundamentals of Nursing; in good academic standing and approved by the school of nursing to work (Required)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 1+ years of Clinical Experience (Preferred)

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES

• Required Certifications/Licensures: Basic Life Support (AHA)
