JOB SUMMARY
  • Assist professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned areas to patients of ages per assigned unit scope. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse. Participates in unit activities that enhance and promote quality patient care outcomes in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Patient Care Services.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of basic patient care, to include activities of daily living, vital signs and intake and output.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
  • Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit.
  • Promotes and displays positive and customer oriented demeanor to patients, visitors, staff and physicians.
  • Seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
  • Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.
  • Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
  • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
  • May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.


Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Other Degree: Currently enrolled in nursing school in a practical nursing program; must have completed Basic Fundamentals of Nursing; in good academic standing and approved by the school of nursing to work (Required)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 1+ years of Clinical Experience (Preferred)
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES
  • Required Certifications/Licensures: Basic Life Support (AHA), If post-graduation must obtain a nursing license within 3 months of graduation
