Job Summary
Provides professional care for patients with obstetrical and gynecological needs. Assists patients in labor and delivery as well as postpartum care. Ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works in conjunction with a practicing Physician. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
Completion of Certified Practitioner program (Required)
Work Experience
1 or more years of Labor & Delivery experience as a nurse or Midwife (Required)
3 years of Labor & Delivery experience (Preferred)
Licensures and Certifications
Certified Midwife (CM) (Required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
Essential Function
Collect data in a systematic and ongoing process
Issue are identified and diagnoses are developed based on assessment data.
Prioritize data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
Identify expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses or issues.
Develop an individualized plan with strategies that address diagnoses.
Provide for continuity through a plan that directs other members of the team.
Implement the plan in a safe and timely manner.
Document implementation and includes changes or omissions of the identified plan.
Consult with healthcare providers and makes referrals as appropriate.
Utilize appropriate community resources and systems to implement the plan.
Treat patients and families with compassion and implements plan of care.
Base care decisions on plan of care.
Monitor and document patient response.
Establish rapport with clients. Adapts communication style, listens and responds to patient needs.
Recognize age-specific responses to treatment. Provides effective interventions.
Respect patients confidentiality and privacy.
Support social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
Manage difficult or emotional patient situations.
Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
Ensure that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
Use correct terminology.
Conform to required style and format.
Develop expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care.
Involve patient/family and other disciplines to determine expected outcomes.
Modify expected outcomes based on changes in the assessment of the patient.
Include the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process.
Evaluate the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes. Documents the results of the evaluation.
Additional Duties
Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.

Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs).
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
