Quality Nurse Specialist - Acute Care

JOB SUMMARY
  • The Quality Nurse Specialist (QNS) is responsible, in collaboration with other unit leadership, for regulatory compliance and ensuring quality, safe, cost effective and efficient patient care. The QNS will represent the department at harm event meetings, collaborate with other unit leadership to improve patient safety and quality. The QNS will round on patients, work at the point of care with the bedside RNs to monitor care and educate as necessary to improve outcomes. The QNS will work to decrease the patients' length of stay through rounding, daily chart review and partnerships with all providers. The QNS will organize and run a daily transition of care huddle with all members of the interdisciplinary team in an effort to assure that care is being expedited and LOS optimized.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
  • May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
  • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
  • May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.


Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 4 year/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or must be obtained within 18 months of hire (Required)
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (Required)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2 - 3 years Nursing Experience (Required)
  • 0 - 1 year Quality Management Experience. (Preferred)
  • 0 - 1 year Lean Six Sigma (Preferred)
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES
  • Required Certifications/Licensures: Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia license; AHA BLS
  • Preferred Certifications/Licensures: LEAN / Six Sigma certification
