LPN - SCHOOL NURSING STANDARDS

  • Comply with nursing standards.
  • Maintain clinic, hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Interpret these to personnel, patients, and public as appropriate.
  • Follow established routine and utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
  • Serve as the LPN for an assigned school to promote wellness, prevent disease and implement care for health deviations, activating referral network as needed.
  • Assist the school nurse as the liaison for the school staff, students and their families in areas of wellness education and a resource/referral source for healthcare needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors, and other school officials to plan and implement School Nursing Project pilot program. Responsible for tracking students and presenting data for evaluation.
  • Work closely with Network of Trust staff and Director to provide leadership and direction to program.
  • Organize, develop, implement, review and evaluate curricula, project activities, and manuals on an ongoing basis.

ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS

  • Collect data in a systematic and ongoing process.
  • Issues are identified and diagnoses are developed based on assessment data.
  • Prioritize data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
  • Identify expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses or issues.

CARE PROCESSES

  • Treat patients and families with compassion and implement plan of care.
  • Base care decisions on plan of care.
  • Monitor and document patient response.
  • Establish rapport with clients. Adapt communication style, listen and respond to patient needs.
  • Recognize age-specific responses to treatment. Provide effective interventions.
  • Respect patients' confidentiality and privacy.
  • Support social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Manage difficult or emotional patient situations.

OUTCOMES AND EVALUATIONS

  • Develop expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care.
  • Involve patient/family and other disciplines to determine expected outcomes.
  • Modify expected outcomes based on changes in the assessment of the patient.
  • Include the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process.
  • Evaluate the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes. Document the results of the evaluation.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensure that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
  • Use correct terminology.
  • Conform to required style and format.

  • Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attend ongoing educational programs).
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, attend training and demonstrate usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.

Education and Experience

  • Vocational/Technical Degree: Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing - Required

Work Experience

  • 1 year Practical Nursing Clinical Experience - Required

  • 1 year Practical Nursing Clinical Experience in School Nursing - Preferred

Licenses, Certifications and Required Training

  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure with current Georgia license - Required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - Required
  • ACLS - Preferred
