Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director and/or Nurse Manager, the scrub nurse/tech is responsible for assisting the surgeon(s) on all operative and endoscopic procedures for patients ranging in age from birth to geriatric.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in nursing or technical degree in nursing or surgical technician and 4 years additional relevant experience Required

Licenses and Certifications
- CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Preferred
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure Preferred
Essential Functions
- Helps to ensure that operating room is ready for procedure.
- Assists the nurse in preparing room and operating instruments and supplies needed for the assigned case, using aseptic technique.
- Prepares sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments appropriate for procedures.
- Drapes sterile field or assists surgeons with the draping.
- Counts all laps, sponges, needles and instruments with the circulating nurse.
- Assists surgeons with surgeries.
- Keeps track of location of all sponges, needles and instruments.
- Communicates with the circulating nurse on status of case and any needed supplies not on the sterile field.
- Makes sure specimen, if any, is handed off to the circulating nurse.
- Cleans operative site and applies dressing as dictated by the case or the surgeon.
- Cleans the surgical room after operating procedures.
- Gathers instruments and cleans off mayo and back table(s).
- Assists in moving patient from OR table to bed or stretcher.
- Takes instruments to Central Sterile for processing; also takes all trash and linen bags to trash room.
- Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
- Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
- Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
- Uses correct terminology.
- Conforms to required style and format.
- Collects data in a systematic and ongoing process.
- Issues are identified and diagnoses are developed based on assessment data.
- Prioritizes data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
- Identifies expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses or issues.

- Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.

- Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility to include any specialty certification requirements (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
- Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
